LIGHTNING EVENT COUNTER
As per NF C 17-12 (2011) standard Clause 5.3.8, when the installation is provided with a lightning strike counter, it should be placed at the most direct down conductor above.
The lightning event counter shall be of electro-mechanical type and non-resettable with 6 digits or more which will register all lightning discharges with a minimum sensitivity of 250A (8/20 micro sec) peak current impulse. LCD screen is not permitted, because the display depends upon the battery and battery life is not reliable.
The lightning event counter shall be robust and easy to install. The recorder shall be housed in an IP 65 enclosure and will operate from the energy of the lightning discharge without reliance on batteries or an external power source. The counter shall have a testing jack facility to check the working condition, if required by the customer.
The lightning event counter shall be tested and certified as per NF C 17-12 (2011) standard for a lightning impulse current of 100 KA (10/350 micro second) or more.
The lightning event counter shall be installed to the manufacturer’s instructions in a readily accessible manner (always 2 mtrs above the ground) so that reading can be taken at regular intervals.
The lightning event counter shall be duly supported with the country of origin certificate issued by the respective country’s chamber of commerce and industry.
